There were two reasons as a kid to read National Geographic...

The olinguito is the world's most recently identified mammal species. Turned out it was hiding in plain sight, mistaken for the related onlingo when folks down in Columbia ran into the tree-dwellers. This is the first documented baby, about the size of a kitten (note this one is being held in somebody's hand).
