The Signal is absolute bullshit.

I can't believe I wasted an hour and half of my time on this pointless exercise of style over substance. It pretends to have some interesting reveal at the end which its confounding twists and turns appear to be driving toward but instead ends up being the hackneyed one you've suspected all along. The unsurprising nature of the climax wouldn't be so bad if so much of the plot wasn't rendered senseless in retrospect. The Signal is beautifully filmed. Every frame, every sequence, is absolutely gorgeous. William Eubank is a gifted director and cinematographer. But what he needs is an actual screenplay. The Signal set itself up to be something incredible, and it could have been, but where the third act should be is merely a cynical attempt to keep you hooked to the central mystery through a series of scenes which end up being pointless and ultimately nonsensical. There is no payoff and the talent isn't there to pull off some kind of surreal, sci-fi, Lynchian dream logic. This movie was totally not what I expected...in the very worst way.
