Not sure how many Tom Clancy fans there are here, but figured I'd share this. Honestly, I don't think the movie is going to do too well at the box office. I'm a HUGE Tom Clancy fan and I've seen the trailer for this one twice on TV in the past few months. Not a good sign. By which I mean if I as a huge fan of the novels that this is based on (or at least the character is based on) basically had this drop on me with no advanced knowledge or even hint of it whatsoever, well, that isn't a good thing.

Add to that the fact that it is a reboot of the films (yet again) and the fact that it's an entirely new story, not based off any of the novels, and yet the Wikipedia page on it describes the premise as something that actually sounds like its a cross of multiple story lines from various Clancy books. (Just from the "premise" on Wikipedia I'm noting similarities to Red Rabbit, Patriot Games, Debt of Honor and even Command Authority.) This film might be a reboot for the Ryan-verse films, but it doesn't seem to me that it's doing a good job of building a universe or even hype for the films.

On the bright side, Kevin Costner has a role in the film as one William Harper. I know the books by heart, so I can say with absolute certainty that there is no character by that name in any of the novels. However, given that this is a reboot and they're apparently taking liberties with the characters there is a chance this could be someone by a different name in the novels.

On a related note, Costner signed on for two films. The next one, which he will be in, is Without Remorse. OMFG!!!! If you have no idea why that is awesome you need to go read Rainbow Six. Like literally right this second. Go pick up a copy and read it. John Clark is a serious badass and yet he doesn't even do much in Rainbow Six. Luckily, Clancy put out a novel later that covered the earlier life/career of one John Terrence Kelly, the man who would come to be known (and both feared and respected) as John Clark. The novel where you find out a great deal about Mr. Clark is Without Remorse. If you haven't read it then pick up a copy when you grab Rainbow Six. I guarantee you'll find yourself hooked and fascinated by the books and the character.

Anyway, just wanted to share the trailer. Give a little info on the film. Regardless of how little it's being promoted, I'll be at my local theater on opening night to watch it. I might even go watch it multiple times with different people each day of the weekend. Because why not? Tom Clancy film!
