So I've just started book 5 (yes, I realise I'm late to the party here). I enjoyed the first couple, but I noticed a pattern around book 3, which solidly asserted itself in book 4, and now I'm barely into chapter 3 in this new one and here we go again.

Dear Dresden Readers:

To wit:

Beginning of Book: "Hi, I'm Harry Dresden. I'm a wizard. I am a magical luddite."

Second chapter or so: "Something small has happened. Crap. Something big just happened to complicate the small thing. Just let me catch my brea—CRAP. ANOTHER THING." Rinse and repeat.

Third chapter: "Blue Beetle. Not blue."

Fourth chapter: "Chivalry isn't dead, it's just in a coma and I don't care kthxbai."

Fifth chapter through end of book: LOTS AND LOTS OF STUFF THAT NEVER STOPS HAPPENING.

End of book: "Hi, I'm Harry Dresden. I'm awesome, but I also screw up."

My question—without getting spoilery, if at all possible—is: does this series mix it up? Is there an actual story in the later books, as opposed to "SHIT THAT HAPPENS TO HARRY ALL AT ONCE"? Because I was enjoying them, and now I'm not sure if I am.
