So I just finished "Exodus Part 2" (season 3, episode 3 or 4 depending on how you count) and there's one thing that's bothering me. (And if you spoil anything later than that for me, I will end you.)
Why did Ellen have to die? And why did Tigh have to do it? I understand that she very nearly destroyed the entire plan and, given her comments in her last scene, would potentially have done it again in the future. But it also seems like an extraordinarily harsh punishment, especially given that they could have taken her back to Galactica where she would presumably get into less trouble. And I'm not seeing why Tigh had to be the one to give her the poison, other than so that he could be anguished over it for the rest of the season (which seems kind of fridgey to me). Wouldn't it have been just as easy to hold her in a safe place under the guise of protecting the rest of the operation and then just let her die (or quietly kill her) in the chaos?
Am I totally misreading this episode? And/or should I just trust that it'll all make sense later in the season?
